Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in men in the United States, with an estimated 161,360 new cases and causing 26,730 deaths in 2017. Not all prostate cancers pose a threat to the life of the host, and most of the men over the age of 80, may harbor cancer cells in their prostates and many of them may not be even aware of the cancer. Most of the prostate cancers are slow-growing and take more than 10 years to reach a stage when they can threaten the host.
